The Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) intends to procure buses to support its sports and tourism development.
In an interview on Wednesday, Mayor Lemuel Reyes announced plans to buy buses for the city and the Department of Education (DepEd)-IGACOS.
“We want to promote our beautiful resorts by putting stickers on the buses. We want to take pride in our local resorts so that people can get a glimpse of them as our buses reach various places,” he said.
Reyes said he also wanted to replicate the LGUs’ bus program for athletes to use in sports and journalism competitions.
“I can see its usefulness when we attend the Batang Pinoy. Other LGUs have buses for their athletes,” Reyes said, adding that if the city government owns a bus, it can also save on car rental expenses and will no longer borrow vehicles.
With a seating capacity of 51 to 54 passengers, Reyes said the buses will be very useful to the city.
In addition to buses, the mayor said the local government also intends to buy heavy equipment, which will be stationed in the city’s three districts.
“For the barangays to have easy access should they want to use it for their projects,” Reyes said.
He urged village chairpersons in each barangay to allocate at least 20 percent of their development fund for road projects. (PNA)
