The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday said there will be no price increase for basic necessities and prime commodities until May 10, 2026.
Covered items include canned sardines, processed milk, bread, coffee, locally manufactured instant noodles, bottled water, laundry soap, candles, salt, canned meat, condiments, and toilet soap, all under suggested retail prices (SRP).
“We also do not expect any shortage of supply in the coming weeks, so there is no need for panic buying, as supply remains sufficient,” DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said in a statement Friday.
“The DTI is on the ground every day, closely monitoring markets to make sure basic goods are available and prices stay affordable.”
The agency said it is coordinating with manufacturers and retailers to prevent profiteering and unauthorized price hikes, and urged consumers to report stores selling above SRP to ensure fair pricing is enforced.
Roque said these are in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to safeguard consumers amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. (PNA)
