Cebu Pacific is set to become the first low-cost airline in Southeast Asia to offer SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service, with the rollout across its fleet scheduled to begin in 2027.
The airline announced Tuesday that passengers will have access to high-speed, low-latency internet capable of supporting activities such as high-definition video streaming and online gaming while in the air.
“Reliable, high-speed connectivity has become an expectation for today’s travelers, and we’re excited to bring that experience to our guests,” said Cebu Pacific President and Chief Commercial Officer Xander Lao.
The initiative forms part of a broader partnership led by US-based private equity firm Indigo Partners, which plans to install Starlink technology on more than 1,000 aircraft across its portfolio. The program includes airlines such as Frontier in the United States, Wizz Air in Europe, Volaris in Mexico, and JetSMART in South America.
“Starlink will provide our portfolio airlines with reliable, high-speed connectivity, further enhancing the customer experience,” said Indigo Partners Managing Partner Bill Franke.
Beyond improving the passenger experience, Cebu Pacific said the satellite-based internet system will strengthen real-time communication between flight crews and operational teams, helping enhance day-to-day airline operations.
The move reflects a wider trend in the aviation industry, as airlines increasingly replace traditional inflight internet systems with low-Earth orbit satellite networks to deliver faster and more reliable connectivity that meets the growing expectations of travelers.
