Expat – The music we share…

by Klaus Döring

Regular EDGE DAVAO readers might remember and recall one of my last columns during the week March 9 to 15, 2009, entitled “Are there no music lovers anymore?”
There, and not only there, I remembered the last concert of the four Dabawenya pianists on March 8, 2008 at the CAP Grand Auditorium in Davao City, It had been really an unforgettable evening of classical music. In that column I asked the question: How long must classical music lovers wait again?
It was definitely worth waiting for!
As vice chairman of public relations, and as event chairman of the Rotary Club of East Davao, I like to quote President Ronald “Ronnie” C. Go: “We have seen the ravages of polio many times in the past. Rotary International has long been at the forefront of the fight to eradicate polio throughout the world. The Rotary Club of East Davao realizes the urgency of totally eradicating this disease as soon as possible. As such, the Rotary Club of East Davao has decided to embark on a fund raising event that will accept contributions to this noble endeavor. Rotary Club of East Davao will be holding a classic concert on the 5th of December 2009 at the CAP auditorium in Davao City as help and support for Polio Philippines!”
Which music the four amazing concert pianists on four pianos will share with us? Telemann’s Fantasia in d-minor, for example. Telemann’s contemporary was Johann Sebastian Bach. Or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Sonata No. 16 in c major, a sonata for beginners. Or Ralph Federer’s rhapsody in d minor, a one-movement work in the style of a free fantasy of heroic or romantic inspiration, popular in the 19th and 20th centuries. Chopin will follow. Deep Purples’ Peter de Rose or a wonderful Philippine Telenovela medley arranged by Caballero Balsamo or Ryan Cayabyab’s Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika. My promise: you will be able to hear more! Music you’ll remember. Music you’ll love. Music you’ll never forget! The Four Dabawenya Four  Classical  Pianists  Mila Cabaguio Jocson, Daphne Cabaguio Jocson, Ma. Luisa Jucoy Montero and  (Rotary Past District Governor)  Evelyn “Len” Abellera Magno) will enchant you! Yes, you can really expect an enchanting evening…!
