Guest Editorial – Holy Week 2010: Testament of hope

Holy Week 2010 is a mix of triumph, betrayal, death and despair, but love is victorious in the end.
The week celebrates the grand parade and triumphal entry, the treacherous betrayal by a close friend, the heinous execution by crucifixion and the glorious celebration of the victory of resurrection over crucifixion, love over hate and life over death.
Holy Week 2010 comes against the backdrop of treachery and betrayal in the Maguindanao massacre in November, 2009, persistent charges of corruption against trusted officials, and problems of toxic pollution.
Threats of violence and terrorism are heard in many parts of Mindanao and in isolated places of the Davao region.
Unfortunately, human as we are, treachery, betrayal, and death continue to be part of our human story. They continue to form part of our world.
These expressions of human wickedness, however, are not the end of the week which ends with the Resurrection, as  the world wakes up to the victory of truth over falsehood, love over hate and life over death.
Truly, Holy Week 2010 has to be a testament of hope. Our prayer is for love truly to triumph in our time! [MCA]
