Exapt – On the road again

by Klaus Doring

My late grandmother used to say, “Travelling educates!” Very well said, Lola. In my case it’s right. It works for me till now while managing several businesses together with my Filipina wife and our family.
During the past weeks, I’ve been on the road again several times. And, I’ll be at it again. When this Edge Davao issue hits the road, I might be somewhere in South Cotabato with its beautiful capital Koronadal City. South Cotabato is a very young province that, in only almost three decades, has attained phenomenal progress. But it has a long history of pioneering immigrants who faced undaunted the challenges of nature and the vagaries of politics. They were the men who laid the foundation of what was to become a progressive province. And, meet me at Lake Sebu, home to the T’bolis, a highland tribe that has its roots in South Cotabato.
Meeting people is unavoidable if it comes to doing business. Without having achieved anything, we leave our office even after having several phone calls and follow-ups. Indefatigable and undaunted, I did try it again. Nothing. I’ll always remember it.
Making a good deal, doing business with someone and making money out of this? Sure, why not! But MOVE! Be always on the way! It’s indeed invisible and opportunities are everywhere indeed. Also for foreign investors and expats. Soaring  high!
By the way, we all have fears that we try to overcome. As expats, as new investors… . One group of people who have a lot tell us about conquering fears, although of a different variety but genuine fears nonetheless, is that group of people called micro entrepreneurs, which make up more then 90 percent of the Philippines’ businesses and employ 70 percent of the total workforce. Yes, for me they are the country’s new heroes.

Many of Germany’s public music schools are facing financial insecurity at a time of widespread spending cuts. But teachers are still trying to uphold basic musical education for tomorrow’s talents. As a musician and music lover such news makes me really sad.
