Not tough-talking; just tough
The high ratings given by the people on the performance of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio during her first 100 days in office has logically heartened and inspired the young lady city executive and her political supporters, especially those close to her.
Her impressive ratings hovered between 7 and 8, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, in opinion surveys conducted by various media establishments. Edge Davao, this business paper, was the first to come out with the results in a cover story of its October 4-10 edition.
Recalling the ratings and the many comments that went with them, the mayor appears to have impressed her constituents with her quick action and decisiveness on many issues of public import.
In the survey, she was called a hands-on leader, a non-trapo, has political will and did not hesitate to hold in abeyance projects earlier proposed by her father when he was still mayor. Vice Mayor Rody Duterte appeared impressed by his daughter’s performance, giving her a rating of 7.5, this, despite the daughter having differed with him on certain public issues.
A number of those who commented on her first 100 days said that Inday Sara is not tough-talking; just tough. Period.
Innovative
A Dabawenyo who’s not into politics, but is getting public attention just the same is Remegio “Boy” G. Salanatin, whose innovative mind has given him a plus as a contractor.
Graduating at the top of his class in civil engineering, and taking second place in the licensure exam, Salanatin is credited with having initiated the design and build (D&B) construction scheme, and Easy-to-Pay (ETP) terms, innovations that have endeared him to his clients.
As this paper hits the streets, Boy, a senior assistant governor in the worldwide Rotary civic movement, awaits the announcement of the winners in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines 2010, precisely for his innovations.
However, entrepreneurs like him, colleagues in the engineering profession and fellow Rotarians are proud of the fact that he is among the finalists of the prestigious search, some of whose previous winners include Tony Tancaptiong of the Jollibee Foods phenomenon and Socorro Ramos, the grand dame of the National Bookstore.
