Trading Post – Learning the ropes of stock trading at seminar

by Aurelio Pena

IT WAS A LONG, frustrated pent-up demand that one saw in the faces of people who turned up in a stock trading seminar forum to learn the basics of buying and selling stocks in the stock market and making sure they really make money instead of racking up big losses like most “investors” do these days.
That was why it wasn’t surprising to see a young experienced stock trader, 27 year old Jurgen Valderrama, who already trades stocks on Citiseconline.com — sign up at the seminar to learn more strategies on “cutting losses” when they are still small and “riding profits” when the stock prices keep rising.
“I signed up for this stock trading seminar because I want to learn how to maximize the profits I make in the stock market,” Valderrama said.
But most of those who turned up as seminar participants last October 16 at the D’Counter Inn function room were newbies in the stock market, who wanted to learn the ins and outs of buying and selling stocks and making profits.
Our good friend in the early days of the Davao Chamber, lawyer Alejo Bulseco, also wanted to know the basics of trading stocks in the stock market on his own and from the looks of it, it was a very fruitful session for him. “I just wanted to know how to get into the stock market after hearing so much about this from friends,” the veteran lawyer told this writer.
It wasn’t just men, who wanted to learn to trade stocks, at the seminar. Menchu Gudian also wanted to “learn how to trade” stocks in the stock market, pointing out (just like the rest of us) that its pointless to park their savings or retirement funds in a bank and earning only 5% a year in interest—- when it is possible to earn as much as 50% or more annually in profits in the stock market.
Also eager to learn stock trading was junior executive Anthony Madrazo, 30, of Sumitomo Fruits who has been fascinated by things he sees on Bloomberg, the running ticker tape over ANC and the stock quotations printed in every business page of national newspapers. “I just got to learn about the stock market and stock trading” he said during the half-day seminar along Camus street near Apo View Hotel.
Young executive Sim Gonzales of Coastland Construction turned up at the stock trading seminar to absorb as much as he could about the stock market and how it works and see how stock trading could be turned into a regular business—- earning big profits as he builds his own company. “I’ve always wanted to attend a seminar on the stock market and how I can buy and sell stocks on my own,” he says.
Several requests had been received by seminar organizer Pinoy Stock Trader (www.pinoy777.wordpress.com) for the next schedule of this seminar with a tentative date set for November 20, Saturday, at the same venue (to be confirmed yet) with many names and inquiries sent thru 09084699301 for advanced reservations.
A similar education seminar by the Philippines Stock Exchange (PSE) was earlier scheduled last September 19-23 but apparently was cancelled due to low response from the public in this southern city, eager to ride the current “bull run” in the stock market.
