During my high school years, I was required to read the Bible every weekday as part of my school curriculum. We were instructed to read from Genesis to Revelation. Our teacher would ask us to select a verse from a chapter and explain its significance to us.
However, upon entering college, I ceased this practice. Reading the Bible was no longer a school requirement. Consequently, I left the Bible at home, where it accumulated dust as it remained unopened.
Even while attending church, I did not feel compelled to read my Bible. The reason for this was that I was no longer participating in Sunday School. When I attended church, my sole purpose was to listen to the message delivered by our pastor.
Indeed, I share the same guilt as the couple described in the story below. I can empathize with their experiences, and the “torture,” as one might refer to it, could have been averted had they engaged with the Bible. Please read the story that I encountered in a social media post:
A couple invited a pastor from their church to dinner at their home. After the pastor departed, the woman remarked to her husband: “I believe the pastor has taken the 1,000 pesos that I left on the table, which I intended to give him.”
Furiously, her husband responded: “If he takes people’s belongings without their consent, then he is indeed a thief. There is no reason to invite him again. From now on, we will be attending services at a different church.”
Two months later, the woman encountered the pastor on the street and bravely confronted him, saying: “Good morning, pastor. You must have noticed that we no longer attend services at your church. This is due to our anger towards you. On the day you dined at our home, there was a 1,000 pesos note on the table that vanished while we were eating. You were the only guest present at that time.”
The pastor responded: “Yes, I did take the money. I placed it in the Bible to prevent any sauce from spilling on it.”
The woman became quite perplexed and requested the pastor’s forgiveness. Upon returning to her home, she opened her Bible and discovered the ,1000 pesos note that had been there for two months.
For two months, she had refrained from reading her Bible to contemplate the word of God. For two months, both she and her husband had unjustly accused the pastor. For two months, this incident had caused them distress.
Are you not at peace with yourself for any reason? Could it be due to the fact that you have not opened your Bible in quite some time?
Make it a habit to read your Bible daily. As Joshua 1:8 admonished: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success.”
The Bible itself addresses its own essence and purpose. It is referred to as “God-breathed” and “beneficial for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).
The above passage underscores that the Bible is not merely a compilation of narratives but an essential instrument for comprehension and development. It also underscores the supernatural origin of Scripture, reminding us that it conveys divine truth to direct our lives.
The divine inspiration of the Bible and its function as a guide for leading a virtuous and meaningful life are also important topics of discussion. It is regarded as a source of truth and direction, assisting readers in making prudent choices and nurturing their faith.
Indeed, the Bible serves as a source of inspiration, guidance, and truth, acting as a moral compass for our actions and a guide for our spiritual journey.
Most American presidents believe the Bible. “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible,” George Washington said. “A thorough understanding of the Bible is better than a college education,” Theodore Roosevelt commented.
Ulysses S. Grant also said, “Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet anchor of your liberties, write its precepts on your hearts and practice them in your lives.” Dwight D. Eisenhower hailed, “In the highest sense the Bible is to us the unique repository of eternal spiritual truths.”
“The Bible is the one supreme source of revelation of the meaning of life,” Woodrow Wilson stated. Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “It is a fountain of strength. I feel that a comprehensive study of the Bible is a liberal education for anyone.”
Scientists also believed the Bible. Sir Isaac Newton said, “We account the Scriptures of God to be the most sublime philosophy. I find more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history whatsoever.”
Sir Francis Bacon said, “The volume of Scriptures reveal the will of God.” And Sir John Herschel stated, “All human discoveries seem to be made only for the purpose of confirming more and more strongly the truths come from on high and contained in the sacred writings.”
