Wilcon Depot Founder and Chairman Emeritus William Belo was acknowledged as one of the Hall of Fame honorees in the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Engineering Alumni Awards last February 17, 2018 held at the UST BGPOP Bldg. Alumni Center Grand Ballroom.
William Belo was awarded with UST Engineering Hall of Fame for Entrepreneurship for embodying the ideals of UST and showing the world what it means to be a Thomasian Engineer during the Grand Alumni Homecoming 2018.
William Belo, a Sapphire Jubilarian, Class of 1973, acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from UST. Right after he graduated, he decided to venture into business and put up a 60-square meter hardware shop in Quezon Avenue that now turned out to be the country’s leading home improvement and construction supply retailer. Today, Wilcon Depot has built up a network of 41 stores nationwide. Recently, William Belo has also earned the Philippine Retailers Association and Department of Trade and Industry President’s Award for 2017 as ‘Patriarch of Home Building Retail’ for his invaluable contribution to the growth of the home building retail sector.
The alumni awardees are individuals who exemplify the Thomasian values of competence and excellence in their respective fields of expertise in pioneering human endeavors, compassion for others, and commitment to their profession. These Thomasians stand out as they take the challenge to live up to the legacy of the university.
