Davao City’s golfing community reluctantly bade goodbye to the city’s oldest golf course.
In an emotional farewell tournament dubbed as “The Last Tee”, Davao’s golfers paid its last tribute to the Davao City Golf Club, known in the local golf circle as Matina Golf, which has become a common playground to everyone over the weekend for one last time.
Among those who took part in The Last Tee are former Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Paul Dominguez, Councilor Jimmy Dureza, lawyer Ramon Edison Batacan and businessman Colonel Sam Afdal.
Davao City Golf Club is located at Quimpo Boulevard in Ecoland, Davao City. DCGC was established in 1950.
Regular local tournaments have been played in the 18-hole course which features an interesting mix of rolling and flat terrain covered with carabao grass. Sandtraps also make this course notorious for its challenge. However, newbies to golf in Davao will always find this course for their first round of golf. This previous 9-hole golf course was renovated to become an 18-hole golf course that spanned over half a century.
The golf course will give way to a proposed business estate.
