Davao Light & Power Co., shipped last Tuesday, October 6, the first truck-load of relief items for the thousands of victims of typhoon “Ondoy” that hit Metro Manila and neighboring Luzon provinces and cities over a week ago.
The donations were loaded on board an Aboitiz Transport System vessel in coordination with the Aboitiz logistics unit 2GO which offers free shipment for all in-kind assistance coursed through any member-company of the Aboitiz Group. The in-kind donations will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Manila, the agency that will distribute the relief goods to the intended victims.
The first shipment consists of 50 bags,10 boxes and 8 sacks of second hand clothing materials, 3 bags and 5 boxes of canned goods and food items, 10 sacks of rice, 4 boxes of assorted medicines, and 24 rolls of tissue paper. The donations came from both Davao Light customers and employees. The relief goods were mobilized in just a period of five (5) days.
Davao Light’s Community Relations and Corporate Communications Departments, the units that are tasked to coordinate the relief assistance mobilization efforts, said the response from both employees and the community was fast. On the very same day the mobilization was broadcast over the radio in-kind donations started pouring in at Davao Light’s drop-off centers at its C. Bangoy Administration office, at its Rondez Complex in Bajada, and at its Panabo City Branch office.
Meanwhile, company employees at all levels also donated cash. As of October 5, the amount was nearing P80 thousand with the coming in of a P5 thousand donation from a customer. This will be deposited in a special account opened at the City Savings Bank solely for the purpose of providing financial assistance to the typhoon Ondoy victims.
