The nights in this community wouldn’t be the same anymore, now that they have powers in their fingertips.
Since 2003, Maulita Aporbo, a mother of three and resident of Purok Sagittarius II in Brgy. Lasang, Davao City has dreamt of having electrical connection in her own home. But only until recently when the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) through the assistance of the office of second district congressman Vince J. Garcia, has this dream been realized.
“Dugay na gyud ming nangandoy nga ma-konektahan ug kuryente (It’s long been our wish to have electrical connection here),” said Aporbo.
Aporbo recalled their community was very dark before that theft is a common crime. Although illegal, they were forced to have flying connections from other households just to install light for the night.
“Gi-ingnan mi sa Davao Light sa una nga gawas nga bawal ang mokabit ug linya sa kuryente sa ubang balay, delikado pa kini., (Davao Light warned us that line tapping is illegal and risky),” she said.
Aside from the risks, Aporbo said they have to pay excessive amount for electrical charges but they didn’t have a choice or else they will spent their nights in total darkness.
With the initiatives of their Brgy. Capt. Jeanette Navarro-Rodas, the electrification project was made possible thorough the financial counterpart to the second congressional district.
During the ceremonial switch-on themed “Kahayag Mo, Gasa Kanamo” (Your light a gift to us), second district chief of staff Atty. Mylene J. Garcia said that the community should take care of this so-called gift and be responsible users of energy.
“Together with your officials and DLPC, we really made effort to make this project possible as Brgy Electrification is one of our priority projects. You are one of the many communities who have received this project. I encourage you to be responsible users of electricity,” said Atty Garcia.
The sister of the congressman further said that the congressional district continues to focus on socially beneficial projects as such is part of the Garcia’s long tradition of public service.
Meanwhile an engineer of DLPC also gave energy-saving tips during the said event. He also emphasized on the safety, proper use of appliances and household devices and the responsibilities of the people in paying their obligations in order to continuously enjoy the services of DLPC.
“Karon makatarong na pag-study akong mga anak sa gabii (It’s easy for my children now to study their lessons at night),” Aporbo said.
Dako among pasalamat sa Davao light, sa mga Garci, sa among Brgy. Officials nga mitabang aron matuman kining among pangadoy. Dili guyd namo sila makalimtan ug sa ilang nahimo alang kanamo. (We are really thankful to those who realized our dream, the Davao Light, the Garcias, and our barangay officials. We will surely not forget them and their good deeds to us,” she added. [Sherwin B.
