The Regional Development Council (RDC) 11 announced that it has chosen during two separate selection assemblies its private sector representatives (PSRs) to sit in the Council for the term 2010-2013.
RDC-11 ex-officio vice-chair Maria Lourdes D. Lim disclosed in a press statement the names of those chosen private sector organizations (PSOs) to represent the 11 private sector-members in the Council.
Lim, who is also the regional director of the National Economic and Development Authority, said the ten PSRs were chosen last June 24 by the selection assembly participated in by 26 PSOs at the NEDA-RDC 11’s Center.
Among those in the list, former RDC 11 chair Engr. Vicente T. Lao remains the representative of the livestock/poultry/fisheries sector.
Louis N. Rabat of Davao Oriental Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., the PSR member of RDC 11’s executive committee for 2007-2010, willl stay as representative of the crops and grains sector.
Nazario R. Cacayan of Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group, Inc. will continue to represent the energy sector while Dennis I. Salvador of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, Inc. and Engr. Eriberto P. Barriga, Jr. of the ICT Davao, will continue to represent, respectively, the forestry/mining/environment and the information and communications technology sectors.
For the civil society sectors, Mother Maria Assumpta David, RVM will sit in the council as representative of the academe sector. Mother David comes from the Regional Association of Higher Educational Institutions – Association of Private and State Colleges and Universities in Region 11.
Admarie D. Marcelo of the Tagum Cooperative was chosen to represent the cooperatives/farmers and fisherfolk sector while Romero A. Maing of the Davao City Consultative Council remains the representative of the indigenous peoples/cultural communities sector.
The urban poor sector will again be represented by Conrado R. Sillada of the United Peoples Organization of Davao, Inc.
Lyda J. Canson of the Bathaluman Crisis Center is to sit in the Council as representative to the sector of women/children/youth/persons with disabilities/older persons.
For the labor sector, Lim said, four labor federations sent their designated voters during the second selection assembly held on July 16 also at the NEDA-RDC 11 Center.
Among the four, Dolores R. Alegarbes of the Association of Trade Unions-TUCP was chosen to sit representing the labor sector.
The PSR slots were allocated by the previous Council based on Davao region’s priority sectors and industries.
The Council meets every quarter to take up a variety of regional development concerns and to oversee the region’s socioeconomic development initiatives. PIA 11/Carina L. Cayon
