The Aboitiz-owned electric utility Davao Light & Power Co. continues conduct mass blood donations by its employees to help the Red Cross fulfill its mission.
This year, the blood donation activity by employees was undertaken last October 2, despite it being a working day (Saturday) and most regular blood donors among employees had other commitments. Still, 73 came to the blood-letting site at the Taebo gym of the company’s C. Bangoy office, each of them expecting to donate at least 500 cc of blood. Only 42 qualified to donate while the rest were deferred by Red Cross doctors for valid reasons.
Among those who gave of their blood were: VP for Engineering Rodger Velasco, asst. vice presidents Reynold B. Felix, Eduardo P. Tan Jr., Mark Valencia, and Ronald Chan; department managers Vic N. Sumalinog, Ruben Malabar, Arvin Capul and Marcelo Migue; Roland Maneja, Allan Christian Calag, Severino Ando, Jr., Heidi Cubarrubia, Nolasco Padillo, Mark Lloyd Acosta, Christian Czar Corsame, Walter Verzosa, Ruben Sta. Rita.
As an incentive to the blood donors, the group providing the catering service to the activity tied up with Handspring Institute of Massage and Shiatsu or HIMAS, a Department of Health (DOH)-accredited school of SPA. The school sent in six (5) licensed masseuses and masseurs to massage the donors after the blood extraction. They also massaged even those whose offer to donate blood was deferred.
The massage service provider was led by the school’s branch manager Ms. Lalaine Olubalang and head trainer husband Ezer M. Olubalang. HIMAS is located along C. Bangoy Sr. St., Davao City.
The mass blood donation was jointly initiated by the Community Relations Department and the Quality and Human Resource Department of Davao Light in support of the Labor-Management Council (LMC) program of the company, and as a way of the Davao Light Kaibigans giving back to its employees and community.
