Christmas is a “time for feasting and joy, gift-giving and generosity to the poor, not a time to delight in newly acquired wealth. These days should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family. For people to remember the deliverance God has given through the birth of Jesus Christ…nor should the memory of Him die among our descendants.” (Women of Faith)
This is the very reason why we celebrate Christmas. At MetroLifestyle, while we were busy planning out parties and exchanging of gifts, we also remembered those who cannot afford to give something in return.
MetroLifestyle Fitness Center & Spa has taken on small steps to gift-giving and generosity to the poor through its Outreach & Feeding Program. Some people immediately saw the potential of sharing their blessings through this program, and started giving donations to MetroLifestyle since its inception in December of 2006.
This month alone, around 180 kids happily received new pairs of slippers. 200 families received groceries and pre-loved items such as clothes, shoes, water bottles, toys and books donated by MetroLifestyle fitness members. Beneficiaries included indigent families in Bucana and Panacan during the feeding and gift-giving outreach programs on December 21 and 23, 2010.
All year round, the once-a-month feeding program also allows 70 kids to enjoy a full meal at Rescue-A-Child Foundation center, with the help of proceeds raised from fun run events organized by MetroLifestyle. It goes without saying that many ‘nameless’ individuals are behind these generous efforts.
