The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) on Wednesday said it is cashing in on the mobile broadband services to squeeze more revenues from its subscribers.
“Mobile broadband is one of the growth segments that we are really focusing on … the penetration rate is still lower that would provide an additional growth for us,” Napoleon Nazareno, PLDT president and chief executive officer, told reporters at the sidelines of the Philippine Business for Social Progress’ 40th anniversary on Tuesday night.
He expects competition in the industry to be more intense this year, “but it would be good hopefully.”
Nazareno said there would be more service offerings that the company will launch to enhance the company’s revenues this year.
“The economy is going to be better this year … The outlook is that there would be growth,” he said.
In 2010, Nazareno said net income and revenues are projected to be better than 2009.
The PLDT, owned by Hong Kong’s First Pacific Co. Ltd. and Japan’s NTT Communications and NTT DoCoMo, recorded a net income of P31.99 billion, up 7 percent from P30.02 billion in the same period in 2009. [PNA]
