Frankly, very few employees in the public sector enjoy attending flag-raising ceremonies at the start of the workweek. If at all, being present thereat is merely for show and compliance to avoid being asked to explain one’s absence later.
Recently in Lanang, a commercial district in the northern section of downtown Davao City, a group of sister companies rewrote the script, so to speak, and gave it more meaning to the employees of 20 or so allied companies in attendance within the corporate compound.
Nelson Umblero, an accomplished training officer of the Antonio O. Floirendo Corporation (ANFLOCOR) group of companies said the new program was meant to foster camaraderie, better understanding of corporate objectives and values, and enhance productivity and professionalism.
Umblero said specific innovations included self-introduction of new employees, a contest for the best interpretation of the month’s celebrated value, announcements from top management, a mini physical exercise and snacks.
The innovation, supported by key ANFLOCOR executives, has resulted in closer working relationship among employees, better inter-office coordination, and greater commitment to professionalism and public service.
