Davao Light & Power Co. and two other Mindanao-based Aboitiz companies under the Power Group, are presently building five Day Care Centers in support of the government’s newly launched K+12 education program.
The Aboitiz-owned Davao Light, which distributes power in the cities of Davao and Panabo, and in the municipalities of Carmen, Dujali and Sto.
Tomas in Davao del Norte, is half-way in its construction of three centers located inside the campuses of Maa Elementary School in the city’s 1st district; C. Villafuerte Sr. Elementary School in Calinan of the 3rd district; and Mudiang Elementary School in the city’s second district.
Therma Mobile 1 based in Maco, Compostela Valley Province, is building its Day Care Center at the campus of Maco Central Elementary School. Therma Mobile 2, on the other hand, is building its Day Care center in Sta. Ana Elementary School in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte where it is based.
The donation of these Day Care buildings is made possible through the intervention of the Aklat, Gabay at Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP), a foundation headed by Presidential sister Pinky Abellada. AGAPP is linking up with private business and other organizations for assistance in the construction of day care centers all over the country.
AGAPP’s effort came about to backstop the Department of Education’s integration of the Day Care education under its umbrella. This after the DepEd launched the K-12 expanded elementary and secondary curriculum. Each of the two-classroom AGAPP Day Care Center costs an average of P1 million. The whole Aboitiz Group has committed to build for AGAPP and donate to the DepEd 50 units of Day Care Centers for the period 2011–2012.
Davao Light will construct six of the 50 while the two Therma Mobiles will be building two units each for the same period.
