Island Garden City of Samal is in the process of forming its own Special CAFGU Active Auxiliary (SCAA) Company named Task Force Samal which will be under the supervision of Task Force Davao.
Col. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, commander of the Task Force Davao sees the Samal unit as green warriors since part of their duties will be the preservation of the environment particularly anti-illegal fishing operations aside from anti-terrorism and general law enforcement role.
“We are just waiting for the activation order of their SCAA Company and their appointment orders as SCAAs.”
There are 28 civilian volunteers being trained by the Task Force Davao, some of them had already been utilized as Bantay Dagat patrolling Samal’s coast.
Guerrero said that the focus of these future SCAAs will be on stopping illegal fishing, anti-piracy, anti-terrorism, anti-drugs and law enforcement. The SCAA Company which will be funded by the Iocal government of the Island Garden City of Samal will be equipped also with watercaft for coastal patrol.
Mayor Aniano Antalan of IGaCoS said that the establishment of the Task Force Samal will help support the City in ensuring peace and order needed to attain progress in the tourism industry.
A monthly stipend, uniforms and shoes will be provided to the trainees. And if they will be activated as SCAAs they will be assigned to the various strategic barangays in and around IGaCoS. [PIA 11]
