Joseph Foltz, deputy chief of office for energy and environment of the USAID, graced the groundbreaking ceremony and unveiling of project signboard of the public market’s wastewater treatment facility in General Santos City last June 23.
He thanked the city for implementing the project aimed at protecting the environment which, he said, is also among the priorities of the U.S. government.
GenSan City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio said the protection of the environment, especially Sarangani Bay, is a priority of her administration, including the protection of the Bay’s natural corals where various species of fish lay their eggs.
The wastewater treatment facility valued at P6.1-M is designed to treat and clean wastewater coming from the public market before it ends up in Sarangani Bay.
The DENR and Ecogov2 are also involved in this project, particularly in the technical aspects. [CPIO/ping aponesto]
