BSP honors partner Davao institutions

The Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas recently honored some of its partner institutions from the private and government sectors in Mindanao that provided outstanding support to BSP’s information and statistical requirements.

In its 7th year awarding ceremony for its stakeholders held Tuesday in Davao City, BSP bestowed on two of its partner firms the award on Outstanding Respondent among small, medium and large companies to BSP’s Business Expectations Survey.

The Steniel Mindanao Packaging Corporation in Bunawan, Davao City was cited as Outstanding Respondent Among Medium and Large firms.

The award was accepted by Steniel’s president, Genesis Goldi D. Golingan. The company which started in 1999 is a manufacturer of corrugated carton boxes, with 192 employees.

The Outstanding Respondent Among Small Firms award was given to Martsons Food Corporation, a semi-refined carrageenan seaweeds and dried tropical fruits, located in Toril, Davao City.

The food company headed by its president, Michael T. Ang, opened in 2003 and currently has 59 workers.

BSP assistant governor to the Monetary Policy Sub-Sector Ma. Cyd N. Tuaño-Amador said “respondents to our Business Expectations Survey provide us with a much-needed barometer of business sentiment.”

“Through your responses, we get a leading indicator of business morale, plans and prospects,” Tuaño-Amador said during the 2011 Awards Ceremony and Appreciation Lunch for BSP Stakeholders.

Another award, the Information Sources for the Report on Regional Economic Developments was bestowed on the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics – Regional Operations Center 11.

BAS, which is an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, takes charge of the production and source of official statistics of agriculture, fishery and related fields.

The awardee-agency is headed by its regional agriculture statistics officer, Engr. Henry S. Soriano.

The National Economic Development Authority in Caraga Region headed by regional director Carmencita S. Cochingco, also received the same award.

NEDA provides technical assistance on plan and policy formulation, knowledge management, investment programming and monitoring, and secretariat services to Regional Development Council and its bodies.

Tuaño-Amador said that they have been honoring their partners “who through the years have diligently supported the BSP’s information and statistical requirements as well as our advocacy programs.”

The BSP assistant governor, who was keynote speaker during awarding ceremony, said “In this endeavor, we value the significance of each of your contributions in providing us with the essential inputs in the formulation of appropriate and timely monetary and external sector policies.”

The yearly awarding rite was anchored on the theme: “Ikaw at ang BSP: Working for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.” [PIA-11/Carina L. Cayon]
