Not long after the Davao River overflowed its banks last June, killing thirty people and resulting in the suspension of classes in 12 schools, damaging books and school equipment , Phoenix Philippines Foundation came to the rescue through its Kadayawan Phoenix Run last August 21 and lent a hand to six schools hit hard by the flash flood: the elementary schools of Matina Central, Mabini, Don Manuel Gutierrez Sr., Doña Soledad Dolor, Davao City Special School (SPED-Bangkal) and Matina Pangi received over P60,000 worth of books on August 24. The books were selected by the school principals.
A sixth grader of Matina Pangi school, Clovie Mae Llemit was overwhelmed by the donations and thanked Phoenix “for your generosity and concern,”
