St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd conducts solid waste info drive

St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd is conducting a series of meetings throughout the Davao Region to inform the local communities about the benefits of proper waste management as described in the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. The seminar and training are required under the Act.
The purpose of the training course is to inform the public especially students, parents and teachers about the environmental benefits, creating the necessary institutional mechanisms and incentives, declaring certain acts prohibited and providing penalties and practices of handling solid wastes. This includes what the company is doing to protect the environment.
The team from St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. have conducted seminar and training sessions. Students, the school Board of Directors, parents and teachers from Magnaga National High School (MNHS) in Barangay Magnaga, attended the first training course on September 20. School principal, Ms. Emalita Ranalan, said she appreciates the company’s effort to educate the people of Pantukan, especially the students. “The young ones are the best catalyst for change in the community,” said Ms. Ranalan. “Honing and supporting their ideals for a better environment would certainly create positive results.” Officials at Kingking Central Elementary School (September 21); Pantukan National High School (September 27); and Sta. Teresa Elementary School (September 28) echoed those sentiments, following similar seminar and training sessions.
Ms. Renee Jabines, principal of Kingking Central Elementary School, told students to keep in mind what they learned from the lectures because it is everyone’s responsibility to protect the environment.
At Pantukan National High School, a student group called Youth for Environmental in School Organization (YES-O!), attended one of the seminar and training sessions. Ms.  Marivic Isaac, a teacher and YES-O adviser, said she appreciates the Ecological Solid Waste Management training course.
“We welcome this kind of activity with a big heart here in our school because this is what our group is really advocating,” said Ms. Isaac. “On behalf of YES-O!, I want to extend my sincerest thanks to St Augustine for holding the seminar and training like these and we hope that this is something that we can translate into tangible results”, Ms. Isaac made the statement in an interview with Radyo Pantukan a radio station based in Pantukan.
The Company has committed to continue conducting seminar and training sessions for the people in Pantukan on all aspects of the Kingking Copper-Gold Project.
St. Augustine Gold & Copper Ltd. is currently undertaking the feasibility study for the mining the Kingking Copper and Gold deposit in Pantukan.
