More than 6,000 residents of Hedcor’s host communities benefited from the company’s free health missions. The hydro company conducted 13 medical missions this year in its host communities.
The outreach program was conducted in eight barangays in Davao del Sur, two communities in Davao City, and another in Digos City. Earlier this year, two Barangays in Bukidnon also benefited from the initiative.
Records show that about 5,600 people availed of basic medical services and check ups. Almost 600 were treated for dental work. The others availed of surgical circumcision.
“This is our 4th year of providing medical services for our host communities in Mindanao. We provide free medical consultations, dental services, with free medicines and vitamins prescribed by doctors”, said Hedcor’s Lalaine Lonzaga.
Hedcor’s partners in this endeavour are the Aboitiz Foundation, City Health offices of Davao City and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, barangay health workers, and the Davao City Lions Club.
To date, the company has disbursed more than 25 million pesos for social development projects for its host communities. Aside from healthcare, the company also gives its communities other benefits like education assistance, livelihood support, and infrastructure projects.
More CSR activities and development projects can also be expected as Hedcor builds more mini-hydro plants in the region. Mindanao is home to Hedcor’s 42.5 MW Sibulan Hydros, 4.47 MW Talomo Hydros and the soon to be completed 13.6 MW Tudaya Hydros.
Hedcor, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AboitizPower, operates and maintains 19 run-of-river hydropower plants in Benguet, Ilocos Sur and Davao with a total capacity of 155 megawatts.
