The United States’ Ambassador to the Philippines on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to the Philippine government for donating $250,000 (over P10 million) to victims of Hurricane Sandy, which battered the US East Coast last week.
“We want to thank the people of the Philippines and the government of the Philippines for your generous support to those in America affected by Hurricane Sandy,” US envoy to the Philippines Harry Thomas Jr. said during the US Embassy’s “US Elections Watch” event in Quezon City.
Thomas even took pictures of Filipinos who attended the event using his iPad, supposedly to give a face to the Philippines’ donation to the US.
“I’d like to do something you do with me all the time: take a photo. I’d like to take some pictures that I can send to my relatives to show the generous people who helped donate to victims of Hurricane Sandy,” he said.
Over 120 lives were claimed when Hurricane Sandy—the largest Atlantic hurricane in history—hit the US East Coast. The Philippine Embassy in the US said over 50,000 Filipinos in the area were affected by the superstorm.
