Last December 12, SM Investments Corp., through the Philippine Red Cross, donated P10 million for the victims of typhoon “Pablo” in Mindanao.
The cash donation is in addition to the numerous assistance extended by the SM Group in the affected areas in Mindanao. SM Supermalls activated its Operation Tulong Express Booths at SM City Davao, Lanang Premier and SM Cagayan de Oro in last December 5, in response to the devastation that super typhoon Pablo caused when it visited parts of Mindanao. Later, SM City Cebu , SM General Santos, SM Bacolod and SM Iloilo followed suit. The Operation Tulong Express is a project of SM Supermalls’ corporate social responsibility program SM Cares and SM Group of Companies’ social arm, SM Foundation Inc. Tulong Express Booths accept cash and kind donations from shoppers. Headed by SM Foundation AVP for Community Outreach Cristie Angeles, volunteers from SM Lanang Premier, SM City Davao, SM Supermarket and SM Cinema visited to Compostela for relief distribution last December 10 where 1500 families received grocery items. SM Foundation with SM Supermalls AVP for Mindanao Operations Debby Go also deployed additional 5,000 packs of relief goods in Monkayo, Montevista and New Bataan last Thursday and Friday. SM Foundation’s partner HarBest is turning over 70 litres of EM (Effective Microorganisms) Solution with 20 units of 16L backpack sprayers to the office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development which will be used in disinfecting affected areas to aid in managing the cleanliness especially in evacuation centers where health and sanitation concerns are expected. HarBest will also be training local government staff on how to use the technology. Operation Tulong Express Booths will be accepting donations until December 20.
