The «Dinner for a Cause», organized by YMCA Davao to raise funds for scholarship, youth training and leadership development programs, was a big success. The fund drive at the Apo View Hotel was supported by businessmen, civic & community leaders including youth volunteers.
Principally, visual artist Julito N. Pepito, The Apo View Hotel and The Dudelz Band were YMCA major partners in this event. An acrylic painting in canvass worth P130,000 in the market today was donated by Pepito, a long-serving corporate secretary of YMCA Davao. The painting was won by businessman Eduardo Reponte, who is a mango dealer & meat vendor.
Incoming president & event co-chair Leoncio Villa-Abrille acknowledged friends and kins alike who willingly and generously gave to YMCA Davao.
He highlighted the donation from Architect Romeo Birrey, president of RGB Construction, Inc. A prominent and leading architectural & urban contractor in Davao City, Birrey, was the lone corporate major donor.
Entrepreneur Edison Lu, president of Julu Enterprises, and currently chair of the Board of Trustees of Davao Central High School, as well as, landowners Dr. Milagros & Teresita Villa-Abrille and Reynaldo VA Coronel & spouse Gloria Maria, were among the corporate benefactors.
Leading the list of corporate sponsors were Anflo Investment & Management Corp., Abdulah Aquino of Aquino Coliseum Gallera and Joaquin Tan of Glowing Motor Parts Corp.
Former vice mayor Louie Bonguyan, now seeking a congressional seat in the city’s first distict, attended the event. Former city councilor Susabel Reta, currently city hall consultant, also graced the affair.
Chairman Scott Nimmo of the Council of Presidents of all Davao City Rotary Clubs, and his equally supportive spouse Rhoda, president of the RC of South Davao Spouses, were avid supporters, as well. Among many others, accountant Alfred Gelua, the local president of the the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants, also came.
YMCA Pres. Antonio Partoza, Jr. expressed his appreciation by thanking the audience for coming and for sharing their generosity, while Past Pres. Jose Custodio, overall chair of the fundraising committee, gave an overview of the raffle and dinner.
Incoming YMCA treasurer & board director Paciencio Rosalem Jr. delivered the closing remarks. While enjoying dinner, Charo Mae Palo, a youth volunteer from Davao Marine Maritime Academy, entertained the guests with several ballads. And before the raffle started, the Youth Federation of Davao gave a wonderful song and dance performance.
