Seeds of hope for Compostela Valley farmers spread

On its move towards normalization, Compostela Valley, a basically agriculture-based province, is determined to rise up from the mess done by Typhoon Pablo particularly on agriculture industry.
With the Department of Agriculture (DA) as the main partner in the recovery, there are various agri-interventions to the affected farmers like the on-going distribution of certified rice seeds, corn seeds and vegetable seeds. These are donated by the DA- XI and DA-XII.
Other assistance in the form of equipment such as farm tractors for land preparation and power tiller/ floating tiller for the preparation of rice paddies, and backhoe, dam trucks, stick truck, and technical working people to facilitate the clearing jobs of the rice and corn fields, and on the desilting of line canals are extended as part of the rehabilitation program.
Mechanization for coconut industry is also worked out with 10 units of Chainsaw assigned per municipality.
These interventions are delivered through the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office with the DA as the lead national government agency and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as the international partner.  [GRACE ALMEDILLA, IDS-COMVAL]
