‘The Many Faces of the Teacher’ nomination opens

The Bato Balani Foundation Inc (BBFI) in cooperation with Diwa Learning Systems Inc. once again opens its search for educators who not only excel inside the classroom, but also uses their influence to bring about positive change for students, fellow teachers, or the local community.
Now on its 11th year, The Many Faces of the Teacher (TMFT) is an advocacy campaign aimed to extol the virtues ofteaching by providing role models who inspire excellence.
Last year, it honored Teodora D. Balangcod Ph.D. of Baguio City, Randy H. Halasan of Davao City, Jesus C. Insilada Ed.D., and Julieta Santillana-Serrano of Iloilo.
Dr. Balangcod not only has spent decades imparting knowledge on plant life and the environment but also applied these for the good of the community. Mr. Halasan has accomplished so much for the community where he teaches, and which he reaches via seven hours of travel, with four hours on foot.  Dr. Insilada, a teacher and prolific author, makes preserving the local language his bigger responsibility. Ms. Serrano is a staunch advocate of special education and has given special attention to students with special needs.
The search is open to teachers of all ages, who are actively teaching in private or public primary, elementary or secondary schools, colleges, and universities.  He or she must demonstrate exceptional performance in teaching; has employed creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness in teaching; and importantly, lives out his esteemed values  inteaching, family, and personal life.  The nominees should also have a deep sense of nationalism and are committed toteaching for the benefit of the country and its people.  He or she must be respected in school and community and is a role model for students, colleagues, and family. In addition, he or she must be an active member of the community and has engaged in socio-civic activities.
Partner organizations, school associations, religious organisations, the Department of Education, and the school heads, students, and teachers can nominate.
The organizers will use the following criteria for evaluation:  person of integrity and morality; in good relations with students, colleagues, community members, and family; commitment and dedication to the teaching vocation; strength of values/principles applied in teaching and personal life and involvement in school and community activities.
