Chinkee Tan inspires UM CBAE students

Over 800 students and alumni from across the five programs of the University of Mindanao’s College of Business Administration gathered at the UM Gym, Matina Campus, last September 6 for the 2nd UM Business Student Conference “Estudyanteng Negosyante” featuring best selling author and one of the country’s most sought-after speakers, Chinkee Tan.
“The conference aims to help create an innovative and entrepreneurial mind-set among the students. Estudyanteng Negosyante is an event to empower students with an entrepreneurial spirit and to motivate them to start a business as young as now,” Lani Lim, Program Head for Marketing Management, said in her opening remarks.
Chinkee Tan, a former actor and comedian who is now a successful motivational speaker and financial coach, entertained and inspired the students with his own personal life story and antics.
Sharing his own story, he encouraged the students to have a change of mindset. “If you are born poor, you do not have to die poor,” he said.
Coming from a poor family himself, Tan inspired the CBAE students on understanding the power of mindset, where one’s negative thoughts come from, and how one can overcome and transform them into positive actions.
He further explained how one can control emotions and reprogram the way one thinks, feels, and acts and turn tragedy into an opportunity.
After the inspiring talk, a long line of students bought his books which were displayed in the gym. The students then went to Tan right in the middle of the auditorium for the autograph signing.
The conference was organized by the UM Marketing Management Program in partnership with K-Magis Advertising & Production.
