Almost 5, 000 OFWs and their families from different municipalities in Davao are expected to participate in a Familypmics (Family Olympics) type event in a series of OFW Family Days with the theme “Matatag na Pamilyang Pilipino sa Panahon ng Pagbabago.”
The annual event is spearheaded by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and aims to gather OFWs and their families to spend quality time with their loved ones.
For Davao City, the OWWA Davao Regional Office will celebrate on December 11, 2016 from 12:00 noon-6pm at the Davao City Recreation Center (Almendras Gym).
“We are expecting around 1,000 participants from Davao City alone,” said Eduardo Bellido, Regional Director of OWWA RO XI. The participants are each entitled a coupon for the raffle draw.
Aside from different games, the event also includes a free medical check-up from Pascual Consumer Healthcare Corp., free eye check-up sponsored by Eyesight Optical Clinic and free body massages to be rendered by massage therapists of International Spiritual Material and Therapeutic Massage center.
Different agencies such as Philhealth, Pag-IBIG, and SSS would also be present in the event to render their services to the OFWs and their families.
“We not only give importance to the OFWs but to the families they worked hard for,” Bellido remarked.
The Davao Region would be celebrating it 3rd OFW Family Day in the four provinces of Davao Region starting with Digos City on November 27 and ending with Kapalong, Davao del Norte on December 20.
Bellido added that they wanted OFWs and their families to experience fun and excitement within their own provinces.
The OFW Family Day celebration is in coordination with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), LGUs, and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). It will also be graced by OWWA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, Councilor Antoinette Principe-Castrodes, the Chairperson of Migrants Affair, and DOLE XI Regional Director, Atty. Joffrey Suyao.
