The Davao City Health Office (CHO) has encouraged Dabawenyos to avail themselves of the free ear screening and check-up being conducted by the city in coordination with the Starkey Hearing Foundation at the Almendras Gym.
“The free ear check-up and screening will be available up to Tuesday, August 15, so I am encouraging those with hearing problems to avail of this since this is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” CHO Head Dr. Joy Villafuerte said.
Villafuerte, who was at the Almendras Gym yesterday to help facilitate the ear screening and make sure it is done efficiently, said this is the first time that Starkey is providing free screening in the city.
“The executive department has allocated resources to make sure that Dabawenyos will be able to benefit from the screening and the free hearing aid that will be provided by the foundation,” she said.
While Starkey will provide the screening and the free hearing aids, she said, the city government will shoulder all other expenses – including transportation, accommodation and other logistics requirements for the event.
Starkey is a United States-based foundation that has committed to donate 1,200 hearing aids to hearing-impaired patients in the city. It has also committed to provide free maintenance and batteries for the hearing aids.
“The city government wants to give those who need it most a chance to avail of this opportunity so we will also accept walk-ins,” Villafuerte said. CIO
