DLPC ‘Kaibigans’ share blessings this Christmas

Last December 19, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. employees spent the Christmas season with thirty 30 children from orphanages/drop in centers and some kids monitored to be working to help improve the living conditions of their families and they were identified by the Department of Labor and Employment XI.

Davao Light supports this annual Christmas event called “Project Angel Tree”, a Christmas Outreach of DOLE-XI. Davao Light employees helped raise funds for the project with additional financial support from Aboitiz Foundation and Income Davao – an Aboitiz employee cooperative. This is all to make less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas.

Fifteen (15) of the beneficiaries, ages 12-15, were from the second district of Davao City. They are supported and monitored by Kaugmaon for Children’s Rights and Social Development, Inc., an NGO partner of DOLE XI. Another fifteen (15) children were from the Panabo City, gathered by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

“My warmest gratitude to Davao Light and its employees for sharing their blessings and time with the kids. It will definitely be a brighter and happier Yuletide season for them. “ said Department of Labor and Employment XI Assistant Regional Director, Atty. Evelyn Ramos.

The kids were brought to a huge mall in Davao City where they were able to enjoy shopping for clothes, gadgets and toys. The Davao Light employee-volunteers, who stood as their “Ates” and “Kuyas”, assisted them during the event.

“It is good that the kids have a first-hand experience of what Christmas is really all about, which is giving. The joy that overflowed with the fulfillment of their wishes will somehow teach them to give to others in need also. In a way, it is us who should thank them for making us experience a more meaningful Christmas.” said Davao Light EVP and COO Rodger S. Velasco.

Davao Light’s support to the Project Angel Tree is now on its fourth year and has become a tradition of the employees to share their blessings especially during this season of giving.
