Australian Rotarians donate medic equipment, supplies

2 Davao Rotary clubs receive donations

The distance between Adelaide, Australia and Davao City, Philippines is about 4,900 kilometers, according to a distance calculator site. But, the Rotary International’s motto “Service Above Self” knows no distance and boundary.

This is the impression of Alvin Orteza, president of Rotary Club of East Davao (RCED), felt after receiving several donations from the Royal Adelaide Hospital of Australia last March 17.

The hospital donations were facilitated by the Rotary clubs of Adelaide and Perfect, sisters of RCED.

The other recipient of the donations was the Rotary Club of Walingwaling headed by President Elaysa Lapena.

Both local clubs belong to the Rotary International District 3860.

The donations were facilitated by the Australian Rotary clubs of Adelaide and Prospect of District 9500.

“I am amazed to see what four Rotary Clubs from two nations could achieve by working together, “ said Orteza.

Arranging for the medical donations under the Rotary Global Grant 1640035 was District 3860 District Governor Nominee Designate Rodel Riezl S.J. Reyes. The donations in kind included medical supplies and  equipment for targeted  beneficiaries in Barangay Caliclic, Island Garden City of Samal, and in Barangay Tibungco and Barangay Marilog in Davao City.

“The Aussie Rotarians’ kindness will go a long way in helping Dabawenyos and Samalnons  who are oceans away  in dire need of medical attention,” said Reyes. Alvin Orteza, Past Presidents  [PP] Dr. Oscar Escudero and Pol Alquiza, Esther de Jesus, PP Ma. Luisa Jacinto and PP Valentino Dionisio. Also attending the ceremony but not in photo are  District Governor Nominee Designate Rodel Riezl Reyes, PP Fred Yelinek, PP Jesse Fortich, President-Elect Prudencio Tan, Secretary Renan Andres and VP Ranz Apolinario.
