Bisaya fiction tilt

THE Davao Writers Guild is calling on writers of fiction or short stories to participate in the “DWG-NCCA Contest in Writing Fiction in Bisaya”. The contest is open to all residents of Mindanao . The story should be in Visayan language, it should be unpublished and not be more than twenty (20) manuscript pages. The First Prize winner will receive Ten Thousand Pesos (P10,000.00), Second Prize winner will receive Seven Thousand Pesos (P7,000.00) while the Third Prize winner will receive Five Thousand Pesos (P5,000.00). Manuscripts should be sent by e-mail to <davaowritersguild@yahoo.com.ph>. The deadline for submission of entries is on August 31, 2009. Judging will be in the month of September. The winners will be notified accordingly. The winning pieces will be published in a special issue of Dagmay literary supplement in Sun Star Davao.
The criteria for judging are as follows: Language (25%), Technique (25%), Relevance (25%), and Overall Impact (25%). “Language” refers to the articulate use of words and grammatical sentences to define or suggest meanings and implications regarding character, plot, setting, and theme. “Technique” refers to the devices and strategies used in furthering the aims of the story. “Relevance” refers to the timeliness of the story in terms of its theme and setting as well as the values it projects. “Overall impact” refers to the totality of the narrative as a unified construction depicting the human struggle to come to terms with forces inside and outside the person or persons in a particular problematic situation.
