The Kadayawan tribal village located inside Magsaysay Park has been attracting local and foreign visitors curious of the way of life of Davao City’s so-called 11 tribes.
Since its first establishment in 2017, the tribal village has become one of the highlights of Kadayawan because it gives the public a chance to learn about and experience each tribe’s culture and traditions, food, music, and their warmth.
Every home in the village is authentic and each one offers a peek into the simple, countryside living.
With the success of the Kadayawan tribal village, the city government is currently looking for a larger space to build the 11 tribal homes in.
“In the future, what we hope is to really have a Kadayawan tribal village that is huge, where we can really set up a cultural center and instead of just one house per tribe maybe we can make it a small community,” City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) head Gene Rose Tecson said.
She said that they are now looking for some property the city owned, where the cultural center can possibly be built.
She said the Kadayawan Village has attracted a large number of local and international tourists that the national government took notice of it.
“The NCCA (National Commission for Culture and the Arts) is very much interested with the tribal village and they want to turn it into a hub for culture and peace,” Tecson said.
Tecson said that the Kadayawan Village has improved significantly a year after it was established. This year, visitors can have more interaction with the tribal village and can even try traditional clothes on.
Aside from showcasing the culture and tradition of the 11 tribes, the Kadayawan Village also exhibits how peaceful Davao City is. CIO
