A ranking Lakas-Kampi-CMD official has branded as desperate the move to discredit the membership of Defense Secretary Gilbert (Gibo) Teodoro in the party. Teodoro was said to have joined the merged party while he was still a member of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition (NPC).
“Teodoro has repeatedly declared that he will only run for president with Lakas-Kampi-CMD. He was sworn into the party by no less than the party president, Executive Sec. Eduardo Ermita, last July 24 and welcomed as an official party member by a majority of Its members,” Senator Miguel Zubiri said. “When Teodoro was appointed as defense secretary over two years ago, he had already left the NPC.
“Teodoro has the support of a big number of party members because of his leadership qualities. Party officials and local leaders all over the country firmly believe that the defense secretary is very capable of continuing the economic and peace and order gains, already achieved by the administration, as the country’s next president,” Zubiri, the merged party’s vice president for Mindanao added.
Zubiri said the administration coalition remains as formidable as ever and that the entry of a presidential material to the party like Teodoro was a very welcome development.
He added that there is no reason to doubt Teodoro’s loyalty and the reception the latter got during his formal entry to the party last month said it all.
“He is already one of us, no longer an outsider, and therefore is entitled to contend in the presidential nomination of the party,” the senator said.
