Noynoy wary of inheriting problems of national gov’t

Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has more reasons to become hesitant about running for president, and losing the election is the least of his worries.
“The idea of being the inheritor of all of the problems of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is not appealing to me,” Aquino said during his visit to Davao City Thursday. Aquino was in Davao to confer with friends and supporters of his family, foremost of whom being Davao industrialist Atty. Jesus V. Ayala.
Considering the scenario of him winning the election and inheriting national problems that outgoing President Gloria Maca[agal-Arroyo shall have left behind, would be like history repeating itself, he said, when his mother had to contend with the problems the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos had `bequeathed’ to her.
“If it were up to me, I would have already decided by now,” he said. However, he added, he has to consider his sisters who will be thrown into another difficult situation (referring to the 2010 election campaign) immediately after their mother’s long illness and then death.
He said he is “really amazed” at the mounting call for him to run for president. All these people saying they will support me all the way make me wonder if we are indeed on the verge of completing what they (his parents) had begun.
Aquino said he never thought the country would again be confronted with the same problems after Edsa.
Ayala did not categorically say he would support Noynoy’s possible bid for the presidency, but advised him to seek the counsel of his family.
“From what I understand, they will be for me regardless of my decision,” Aquino said. [Lovely A. Carillo]
