Sarangani’s Chiongbian gains support in congressional bid

Kind heart, excellent leadership, passion for God and compassion for people. These qualifications of businessman Roy Chiongbian are what voters need to consider in a leader and a politician, according to public officials and religious leaders in Sarangani Province.
They hailed Chiongbian’s  decision to run for a seat in Congress in next year’s elections, saying that he would be the right man to represent the province because of his qualities, educational background and experience in public service.
Chiongbian will likely face international boxing champ Manny Pacquiao who already declared his intention to also run for congressman.
Mayor Anecito Lopez, of Maasim said Chiongbian is known for being a kind hearted person.
“Sir Roy has a heart for the masses, and his leadership quality is exceptional. I have no doubt he will be an asset in Congress,” Lopez declared.
Danny Sampitan, officer of the Sarangani Peace and Development Advocates League in Pangyan, Glan, said that Chiongbian “has a clear vision and dream for Sarangani and its people,” in declaring his support for Chiongbian’s bid to run for Congress.
“Siya yung lider na merong pagtingin, meron ding pangarap para sa tao. First time kung na-meet si Sir Roy, naramdaman ko agad na wala silang pagkakaiba ni Governor Migs, madaling lapitan, madaling kausapin. Parang ordinaryong tao lang na pwede mong kalabitin at kausapin,” Sampitan said.
He added that because of this trait, Chiongbian can be looked upon as a friend or a parent.
Pastor Fernando Callaga, president of the Tribal Pastor Association in Malapatan, said he was glad Chiongbian made the decision to enter the world of politics.
He said the quality of a good leader can be discerned through his passion for God and compassion for people. He added that Chiongbian is a “product” of two respected Chiongbians in politics (the late former Congressman James L. Chiongbian and former Sarangani Governor Priscilla Chiongbian) who had served their province well and honorably, without a hint of anomalies and similar shenanigans.
“Sir Roy has the right qualifications to represent our province in Congress. He is a successful businessman, he is well educated, and he is God-fearing. Furthermore, he has a heart for the common man,” Pastor Callaga.
Mayor Elsie Perret of Maitum echoed Callaga’s observations of Chiongbian. “He is just the kind of leader Sarangani needs these days,” she said. “I see that we are very lucky to have him as our future representative in Congress.” Sh wwa seconded by Pastor Marcelo Lim, of Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches of the Philippines (Camacop), who said that Chiongbian would make a very good leader in the coming years.
