Davao region hosts 3RD RDC nat’l confab

With the theme “The RDC Beyond 2010:  Strengthening the Role of the Private Sector,” the Davao region will host the 3rd Regional Development Council (RDC) Private Sector Representatives (PSRs) national conference slated Feb. 11-13, 2010 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, Davao City.
The conduct of the conference provides a venue for the PSRs to exchange views, particularly on their role in the RDC.  This year’s conference is aimed at inspiring and motivating the PSRs to carry on with their vital role of being the private sector’s mouthpieces in the RDCs and the government’s partner in regional development.
The conference will gather PSRs from fourteen (14) RDCs in the country.  The RDC is the highest policy-making body on socioeconomic development in each administrative region (except for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the National Capital Region).  It is composed of local chief executives, regional heads of departments and other government offices, and representatives of non-government organizations or the private sector.  The PSRs comprise a quarter of the members of each full council.  About 150 PSRs are expected to join this Conference, each of whom is a distinguished representative of a strategic sector in their home region.
The three-day conference will involve talks from distinguished resource persons, as well as field visits to showcase the region’s industries and tourism sites. Jose Ma. A. Concepcion III, president and CEO of the RFM Corporation and presidential consultant for entrepreneurship and Go Negosyo founder, will be sharing advice and encouragement on today’s complex business world as the keynote speaker.  The other speakers are:  Judge Dolores L. Español (Transparency International Philippines chapter) on PSRs:  Sentries of Good Governance; AD Kenneth V. Tanate (NEDA) on Public and Private Sector Partnerships: Modalities and Best Practices; ASec Leonilo B. Lariosa (DoE) Revisiting the Power Sitatuion:  Prospects and Opportunities for Private Sector Investments; and Ted Padova (author) on The State, Prospects and Requirements of E-Commerce in the Philippines:  with Focus on Promoting Online Transactions.
The Davao region will share with the participants the Panabo Mariculture Park, the TADECO packing house to showcase the banana industry, the Philippine Eagle Center, the Malagos Garden Resort and the Crocodile Park.
Tagum City mayor, Rey T. Uy, and wife, Alma L. Uy, who is also the RDC 11’s PSR representing the tourism  industry, will host a welcome dinner for the participants on the first day after the field visits to Tagum City’s E-Park, La Filipina Cemetery Park, Economic Enterprise Zone and the tour of their new city hall building. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) will host a fellowship dinner on the second day of the conference.
The organizing committee of this year’s PSR conference is headed by RDC 11 chairperson, PSR Vicente T. Lao, with PSR Louie N. Rabat as the conference chairperson.  The RDC 11 secretariat, the NEDA regional office 11, through director Maria Lourdes D. Lim, is coordinating with various stakeholders to get involved in this year’s PSRs’ conference as sponsorships keep pouring in from the various partners in the business sector, particularly Philippine Airlines, ANFLOCOR, FS Dizon and Sons, Inc.,  Macondray Plastics, Inc. (MacPlas), AMS Farming Corporation, San Miguel Corporation, Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association, Lapanday Foods Corporation, DOLE Philippines, SAGREX, Tesoro’s Printing Press, Stanfilco, PBGEA and chairman Vicente Lao.
