Liberal Party standard bearer Noynoy Aquino is poised for a breakaway in the presidential race as he further increased his lead over NP bet Manny Villar by 12 percent in the latest Pulse Asia survey.
With only a month to go before Election Day, Aquino enjoys a slight to significant lead over the billionaire-politician in all areas and socio-economic classes, Pulse Asia said in a statement last Tuesday. The survey was conducted nationwide from March 21 to 28 with a sample of 3,000 respondents and a margin of error of +/- 2 percent.
The front running LP bet scored 37 percent while support for Villar declined to 25 percent, a four percent decline from the 29 percent he got in the January survey of Pulse Asia. In third place was former President Joseph Estrada, who was steady at 18 percent.
The survey showed Aquino widening his lead over Villar in the National Capital Region (42-17); in Luzon (33-26); and the Visayas (41-30); even as his support increased further in the ABC and D classes. He continued to maintain his lead in Mindanao (37-23); and the E class (34-28).
The continued erosion of support for Villar has virtually negated the billions he spent in radio and television ads since the last quarter last year which boosted his ratings. His current ratings are almost back to where he was in the December survey of Pulse Asia where he scored 23 percent as against Aquino’s 45 percent.
The Pulse Asia survey follows that of the SWS poll where Aquino scored a similar 37 percent as against Villar’s 28 percent. Estrada was also third with 19 percent.
In both polls, Lakas-Kampi bet Gilberto Teodoro posted single-digit ratings — 7 percent (Pulse Asia) and 6 percent (SWS). He was followed by Richard Gordon, 2 percent (Pulse Asia) and 3 percent (SWS); Eddie Villanueva, 2 percent (Pulse Asia) and 2 (SWS); with the rest of the candidates getting below 1 percent in both surveys.
