True to his commitment of a “positive campaign,” Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. said Filipinos should not be caught in between the relentless bickering and clashes among government officials as they are the ones who suffer.
The former Defense Secretary stressed the need for government leaders to get past their differences, and focus instead on doing things that can help improve the country.
“Pag hindi nagkaunawaan at nagkaisa ang mga pulitiko, sa unang araw pa lang pag nakaupo na ang bagong administrasyon at mayroon siyang ilalagak na plano, sasalungatin na kaagad ito ng mga kalaban nya sa pulitika (On the first day of a new administration, political opponents immediately challenge the new plans and policies. This happens when there is no understanding between politicians),” he said.
“Sinong kawawa? Si Juan dela Cruz, at hindi si Ginoong Senador, Kongresista o Presidente (Who will suffer? It’s Juan dela Cruz, and not Mr. Senator, Congressman or President),” he added.
The Harvard-trained lawyer and 1989 Philippine Bar topnotcher said that once elected president, he plans to implement his platform of government comprising issues concerning education, health, environment, food security, infrastructure and peace and order.
He, however, stressed such programs cannot take off without unity, which “is difficult to achieve amid the politics of hate that permeate society.”
“Masyadong nagkakawatak-watak ang ating pulitika kaya kailangan lang natin ng pagkakaisa at pagkakaunawaan. Ang pagkakawatak-watak ang dahilan kung bakit nangungulelat ang Pilipinas (Our political system is too divided so we need unity and understanding. This disparity is the reason why the Philippines is always last in the race),” stated Teodoro.
The Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential bet said the Philippines is made up of 7,107 islands and Filipinos should unite the spirit from each island, instead of harboring grudges and misunderstanding.
According to G1BO 2010 Media Bureau spokesman and director Atty. Mike Toledo, the former Defense Secretary’s pronouncements again showed “how different he is from the rest of the presidential candidates.”
“He conducts a positive campaign — sans the mudslinging and dirty tricks being done by the other rival camps,” he pointed out. “Gibo is committed to a clean campaign because he wants to set the tone of national healing and political reconciliation under a Teodoro administration.”
Toledo said the Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer has always pointed out in the various forums, campus tours and other gatherings that he had attended that the Philippines will never take off “unless we abandon the politics of hate that has permeated our social environment for decades now.”
“When Gibo wins, among his first priorities is to reach out to his political rivals and convince them to come to a constructive agreement on a multi-partisan effort to tackle primary concerns such as education, health care, food security, infrastructure development, environmental protection and peace and order,” said Toledo.
“The members of the opposition can continue to oppose the government all they want, but Gibo wants them to work together with his administration on ensuring the smooth and speedy implementation of priority projects that will truly benefit the poorest of the poor,” he added.
