TUCP hits critics of Sasin

The TUCP Party-List, the largest workers’ party in the Philippines criticized left leaning and NGO groups who questioned the party’s selection of  Anthony B. Sasin as its second nominee for the party’s congressional bid.
“Mr. Sasin’s qualifications are impeccable. He is a long time consultant on labor-management relations in the Mindanao affairs of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) Labor Center and a regular member of TUCP. Mr. Sasin’s deep knowledge and exposure in his field has allowed him to forge stronger ties with labor and farmers cooperatives. His initiatives for assistance and support to the livelihood of more than 200,000 workers in his field of expertise is an open testimony to his dedication to the worker’s plight…” said TUCP Party-List Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza.
Rep. Mendoza added that these critics have failed to realize that the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines Labor Center is different from TUCP-party list which has a distinct and separate juridical personality.
“It is no secret that Mr. Sasin has advocated for regional development, investment promotion in order to create employment opportunities. He lobbied the government to fast track the regional integration of ASEAN, Japan, China, BIMP-EAGA which was launched in1994. All these were envisioned to attract direct foreign investment and create business and employment opportunities to many of our compatriots. I am confident that Mr. Anthony Sasin will be able to represent the interest of labor in a more novel and dynamic manner,” remarked Rep. Mendoza.
“I find the opposition to Mr. Anthony Sasin by certain groups- Siad Initiatives in Mindanao Convergence for Asset Reform and Regional Development, Interface Develoment Interventions, SALIGAN-Mindanao, Mamamayan Ayaw sa Aerial Spray (MAAS), Alliance of Progressive Labor highly questionable because I believe that this spent forces act as fronts for Akbayan. Doesn’t Akbayan chide Bayan Muna as a front? What do you call this group who works through front groups who are adjuncts for contrived and fabricated “empowerment projects”?, Mendoza asked.
“Mr. Tom Villarin who is the third nominee of Akbayan is technically a candidate. Aren’t his fulminations politically motivated? By hiding behind the SIMCARRD, he merely compromises and exposes his sources of foreign funding,  the Olaf Palme Center (funded by the Swedish Social Democratic Party), the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (funded by the German Social Democratic Party)-who unsaid and unspoken are engaged in the promotion of their own forms of social democracy with its associated agitation and provocations. The TUCP Party-List calls on the SEC and COMELEC to investigate whether foreign funds are being used to lobby Congress or support the Akbayan campaign which is illegal,” Mendoza added.
“Instead of mudslinging these forces should join the TUCP in its call to investigate the sale by government Barges 117 and 118 of the NPC which helped create an artificial “energy crisis” in Mindanao which directly affects the rise of prices of commodities and services to the detriment of the lowly average worker. I invite these groups to instead join the TUCP’s call for a P75 across the board wage hike for average workers. They should join us in opposing the privatization of the Agus-Pulangi hydro power plants. They should join us in our efforts to monitor the Tamugan river so that it will not be sacrificed to the greed of Hedcor. These are the real issues and these are the hard facts,” Mendoza closed.
