Among the national candidates vying for the two highest national positions, vice presidential bet Jejomar C. Binay of the PDP-Laban got the most number of votes in Davao City. He is followed by running mate and Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino standard bearer former Pres. Joseph E. Estrada.
Based on the City Certificate of Canvass, Binay got 278,491 or 49.72% of the 580,236 total number of voters who actually voted for the vice president position. Estrada, on the other hand, got 253,623 or 44.91% of the same total number of voters who actually voted for the position of president.

While Binay and other contenders for president and vice president failed to garner more than 50% of the total number of votes cast, results of the elections for the mayoralty and vice mayoralty posts showed landslide victories for Sara Duterte (mayor) and Rody Duterte (vice mauyor).
Among candidates for local positions, Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte got the most number of votes with 440,030 or 80.26% of the 577,602 total number of votes cast for the vice mayoralty post. In terms of total number of votes received, councilor Karlo S. Bello of the third district ranked 7th with 91,668. But by virtue of a provision in the Local Government Code, he is now considered as the highest ranking member of the city council.
Section 44 of the Code provides that rankings in the council shall be determined on the basis of the proportion of votes obtained by each winning candidate to the total number of registered voters in each district.
