DOST 11 conducts production training

Waste minimization, pollution prevention, eco-profitability, low/zero-waste technologies, zero-waste emission, and green productivity – if you are familiar of these terms then you have a glimpse of what cleaner production is.
It can be viewed as a continuous application of an integrated preventive environmental strategy to processes, products, and services to increase efficiency and reduce risks to humans and the environment.
A three-day training on Cleaner Production Assessment (CPA) was facilitated by the Davao City Science and Technology Center (CSTC-Davao) of the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. XI (DOST XI) at the Davao Episcopal Mission Center , Matina, Davao City on May 12-14, 2010.
It was in coordination with the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI).  ITDI sent their experts on Cleaner Production as resource speakers namely: Engr. Reynaldo Esguerra, Engr. Angelica Celicious, and Engr. Rochelle Retamar.
The training was attended by forty (40) participants from non-food industry, food industry, professionals, and government agencies who actively took part of the training activities.  [PR]
As a highlight, mock Cleaner Production Assessments were done in 3 major companies in Davao City . The trainees were able to look into the material utilization, plant processes, energy consumption, waste discharges, plant lay-out, and occupational safety of the companies.  As an output, they were able to recommend areas for improvement that may be adopted by the participating companies.
The training on CPA is part of the government’s endeavor to help firms, particularly the MSMEs, increase productivity and reduce pollution and waste generation.
