A car model produced by a Korean automaker, and which has been recalled, is not being sold in the Philippines and other Asian countries, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has confirmed.
Kia Motors has recalled 56,000 units of Cee’d model due to problems with the brake. This particular model was manufactured between 2008 to 2009 by the company’s assembly plant in Slovakia.
In a letter addressed to Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba, director of DTI’s Bureau of Trade Regulation and Consumer Protection (BTRCP), Palermo C. Soriano Jr., the marketing services manager of the Columbian Autocar Corporation said that the Kia Cee’d is a model intended to be sold only in Europe.
“It is not being sold in the Philippines nor in any other Asian countries and not even in the United States,” Palermo said.
He added that all Kia models sold in the Philippines by Columbian Autocar Corp. are being manufactured and sourced from the Kia Motors Corp. in South Korea.
DTI 11 regional director Marizon S. Loreto said that an instruction to coordinate with the Kia dealers was already given to the DTI provincial offices.+
“We have to inform the public about this product recall for us to protect them, especially if there would be some who have purchased such Kia model in Europe. They have to be warned on the possible hazard that the product may cause them,” Loreto said.
Loreto encouraged the public to inform the nearest DTI office should they have trade and consumer-related concerns, not just about the recalled product. [dti11/jenny molbog-mendoza]
