DTI issues memo on biz name registration area

IN A BID to encourage more entrepreneurs to widen their coverage, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has issued another helpful feature in the business name registration.
In a memorandum issued by DTI’s Bureau of Trade Regulation and Consumer Protection (BTRCP) director Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba, it stated that business names existing at the effectivity date (October 6 this year) of Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 10-08 series of 2010 are national in territorial coverage. Thus, the use of such business names is not limited to the business address indicated in the certificate but in all areas in the Philippines.
Further, the memo said, branches or outlets of existing business names (BNs) that are established on October 6 this year and onwards are no longer required to secure another BN registration.
DTI 11 regional director Marizon S. Loreto said that with this new development, entrepreneurs will be enticed to set up more branches of their business.
According to Loreto, “Entrepreneurs can definitely save on costs. Before the DAO was implemented, a business had to apply and pay P300 for the business name registration of each of its branches. For example, Businessman A is currently operating in Davao City but wants to set up branches in the cities of Digos and Tagum. He has to get a business name registration certificate for his Digos City branch and another one for the Tagum City branch. But with the new DAO, he will be issued a certificate by DTI attesting that such business can operate branches anywhere in the country.”
Entrepreneurs may now present the certificate to the appropriate local government units (LGUs) and other government agencies that require the same as one of the requirements for the issuance of permits and/or licenses.
“This is DTI’s way of making things easier and better for our clients as we always want to provide them with excellent, more efficient, and faster services. We hope that the business sector will appreciate this move,” she said. [DTI11/JMMendoza]
