Karlo asks help for flood rehabilitation

House Assistant Majority Leader and Davao City congressman Karlo B. Nograles on Friday vowed to reach out to national government agencies to secure more help in the flood-recovery efforts even as he continued presiding relief operations in flood-ravaged communities in the First
District.
At the same time, Nograles  ailed many “unsung heroes” in the widespread effort to extend various forms of assistance to the victims of the June 29 flashfloods, considered as the worst-ever to hit Davao City in memory. At least 30 people perished in the disaster while over
10,000 families were displaced.
“The community spirit shown by various sectors, from government to private, is heartening,” Nograles said. “People of Davao City, many of them unsung heroes, showed that we could all unite in the face of adversity.”
Aside from the usual government agencies tasked to undertake disaster-related functions, Nograles cited the role played by the military and various civic groups in providing rescue and immediate relief for flood victims. He said that countless of individuals organized themselves to undertake relief operations, with even some more persons randomly extending help without groups.
Karlo said he personally saw the phenomenal community spirit in his daily rounds to flood-devastated areas that include Matina Pangi, Matina Aplaya, Matina Crossing, Talomo Proper, and Maa. “They are the unsung heroes whose resilience, dedication, determination and hard work counted a lot in bringing immediate relief to the flood victims,” said the congressman from the First District. “I hope we could continue this united effort to bring the flood victims on the road to
normal living.”
On this road to recovery and reconstruction, Nograles said he would reach out to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) so that the flood victims could be helped further back to their feet.
The assistant majority leader of the House of Representatives, Nograles said he will likewise go back to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for more help, particularly in shelter assistance. Nograles earlier lauded DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman and Undersecretary Mateo Montaño for their prompt action to aid the victims.
Nograles also called on concerned government instrumentalities to immediately come up with comprehensive plan to cope with any emergency due to sudden changes in the climate pattern and the expected heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.
