Being a foodie is never easy. One, you never get satisfied. And two, you always get hungry. There’s a constant chase that lures you like a magnet — without you actually knowing. And you only become aware when you cannot fit into your clothes. Do we stop? Of course…NOT! That’s the beauty of being a foodie — finding balance. (This is something I really, really need to learn!)
Recent trips allow for the foodie to be satisfied. Recent trips also enables the foodie to update one’s list of gastronomic places. Personally, I keep a mental list of places I’ve been to, food finds I’ve tasted and gastronomic places I need to visit. This way, I have a reason to reminisce, day dream and alibi for another trip.
Speaking of which, Roadhouse Cafe is one of the most delicious foodie places I’ve had the opportunity to visit both in Davao and Bukidnon. A recent trip with my peers rekindled my longing for a plate of sizzling hot beef strips and sizzling brownie ala mode that only Roadhouse Cafe has. Not to mention, their plate of crispy fried shrimps with sweet and sour sauce perfect for munching. So, what’s a foodie to do? Eat. And eat more.
What used to be a Bukidnon gastronomic secret is now a Davao favourite. Since opening their branch at the SM City Davao, a number of people have discovered the secret that lies within. With a menu that enumerates classic favourites and fusion inspired dishes, you would surely have a blast trimming your choices. Though not entirely exhaustive, the hard part becomes obvious when you cannot decide between a plate of sizzling pochero and a bowl of nutty kare-kare. Yes, for a meat lover (like I am), it’s always a struggle to shrug one dish and choose.
Aside from their tender, meaty and juicy beef dishes (their steak is a must try!), Roadhouse Cafe also serves a delightful bowl of Sinigang na Lapu-Lapu and Lengua Estofado. Personally, I am not a big sinigang fan (or fish dishes with sabaw) but theirs made me refill my bowl without hesitation. The clear soup tastes clean with just the right hint of spices. More so, I love the crunchy veggies.
Lengua, though still a beef dish, is very savoury. Not umay savoury but perfectly savoury. The lengua is so soft — it literally melts in your mouth. The mushroom gravy/ sauce verily complements the slices of lengua without overpowering the star of the dish.
As mentioned, Roadhouse Cafe serves a mean plate of crispy shrimps that super delish. The dish is basic — very simple even — but there’s something that will have you munching on them unconsciously.
A personal favourite is their bowl of Kare-kare. Yup, I am but a kare-kare lover who cannot forego ordering kare-kare anywhere I may be. I love how theirs is nutty and creamy but is not, again, umay. This saucy dish goes well with their bagoong that’s not super alat. Again, something worth ordering.
Any Roadhouse Cafe experience is not complete without ordering their sizzling brownie la mode. The hot, thick chocolate sauce, cold vanilla ice cream and room temp gooey brownies makes the perfect meal ender. I love how they complement each other, allowing for a more textured dish that is balanced and sweet at the same time. The gooey chocolate sauce will have you licking your spoons in no time.
Roadhouse Cafe also serves the most delish Steak rice, fried chicken and Pancit Guisado. Also a must try is their Bouillabaisse soup and Fried Rice. And YES, we are all foodies for life. Why? Because we EAT and love the fact the we EAT.
You can visit Roadhouse Cafe’s original restaurant along the national highway at Bagontaas, Valencia City, Bukidnon, or closer to the city at SM City Davao, Quimpo Blvd., Ecoland, Davao City.
